Dwight Harris

I came to Faith in Christ at the age of 15 during a revival meeting at the Mount Olivet AME Zion church under the leadership of Rev. Emelyn Roberts. Like John Wesley, I had a heartwarming experience of trusting Christ and Christ alone for my salvation. Shortly thereafter, I was baptized and received into membership. I was quickly given several positions in the church such as Youth Leader, Secretary, Treasurer, Missionary, and finally Lay preacher. In 2003 I left my small village in Portland, Jamaica on my own volition to the United Theological College of the West Indies to pursue a degree in Theology. It was while at college that I was introduced to the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas. The Rev. Ruth Ann Goldson asked if I would like to become a member of the fellowship, and the rest is history. I became a member of the Providence Methodist Church and quickly became a local preacher.
In 2007 I graduated from the United Theological College of the West Indies with a Diploma in Ministerial Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from the University of the West Indies. Earlier this year I also graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with a Master of Business Administration. I consider myself a lifelong learner, thus I am always looking for opportunities to extend my knowledge. I am an avid reader of the writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, James Cone, Jurgen Moltmann, and Philip Yancey among others. The study of theology fascinates me because it enables us to learn about God and apply this learning to our daily lives.
I had the amazing opportunity of serving God’s people in the James Street Speistown Circuit in Barbados and, the St. Elizabeth and Annotto Bay Circuits in the Jamiaca District. The work that lies ahead of us is great, these are changing and challenging times however, we serve a God who is unchanging. “Our God can do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we could ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the Church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever” Ephesians 3:20-21.
I am married to a beautiful, talented, witty, and caring lady by the name of Roxannie. She is truly my better half! She currently works as a Registered Nurse at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital. We were both born in January, got married in January, and we are expecting our first child in January of 2024! You can tell that we are crazy about January and all things orange and yellow! My wife is an excellent Netball player and puts me to shame at board and card games. On the other hand, I love the game of Cricket and American Football. We have watched the entire series of Keeping Up Appearances too many times to count, and I am currently on the hunt for a heavily discounted set of The Royal Doulton tea set with the hand-painted periwinkles! I am excellent at cooking Caribbean Curry, and Rice and Peas. We are still finding our way around the UK having only been here for a year. We crave your prayers as we start our ministry in the Charing community and the South Kent Circuit.
